Steamboat Springs, AAA's Number One Colorado Destination for 4th of July Weekend, promises a Jam Packed Holiday Week

Steamboat Springs, CO (PRWEB) May 3, 2007 -- Steamboat loyalists have differing opinions as to why Steamboat Springs deserved AAA's nomination as the number one Colorado destination for the 2006 4th of July weekend. Great Steamboat lodging is a big part of that success.

Outdoor enthusiasts are captivated by the breathtaking vistas and wide open ranch lands which are home to infinite hiking and horse riding trails, renowned golf courses, fly fishing streams and secluded hot springs. Adrenalin junkies relish in a whitewater rafting, kayaking and mountain biking paradise. Shopaholics and foodies head Downtown to one of the more authentic towns in the Rockies to splurge on bona fide cowboy boots, sip a freshly squeezed margarita or sample our local culinary delights.

ResortQuest Steamboat Springs Vacation Rentals additionally promises an affordable family weekend in Steamboat Springs with the "I Love Steamboat" package. Guests booking a two or more night stay will receive a Steamboat chamber gift certificate at check-in, plus discounts on Steamboat lodging. The "I Love Steamboat" Chamber Gift Certificates can be redeemed at all Chamber member businesses. Instead of giving a gift certificate to be used at a specific store, guests can decide whether they want to use the gift certificate for a massage, gondola tickets, Yampa river tubing, rodeo tickets or out to dinner. It's their choice.

Best of all, little and big kids alike will tell you that Steamboat is their destination of choice over the 4th of July holiday because of the family friendly (mostly free) events to choose from.

This 4th of July holiday, kick back, relax, and enjoy popular Steamboat Springs community events including, a community all-you-can-eat pancake breakfast, free music, a cattle drive, heritage ranch tours, Fourth of July Parade, and Pioneer Days Block Party, not to mention fireworks. These Cowboy Roundup Days (June 29 to July 4) are a Steamboat tradition, the town turning out and saluting the spirit of the Old West.

Head downtown on Sunday, July 1st at 10am, to watch local cowboys routing 110 pair of cattle down Lincoln Avenue. In honor of more than 100 years of Western Heritage, this traditional Saddleback Ranch cattle drive retraces the steps down Steamboat Springs' main street, which is as wide today as it was back in the late 1800s when cattle drives through town were more common. Following the drive, cross over the Yampa River to two more free events: The Ranch Horse Competition at the Romick Arena and then the Mountain Valley Bank Ranch Rodeo at Romick Arena later in the afternoon.

Throughout the weekend, from 1:00-4:00pm, visit local working ranches and tour Steamboat's cultural countryside with local historians with the Heritage Ranch Tours. Learn about the rich ranching heritage of Routt County and its residents with hands on experiences. Plus there will be opportunity to view and purchase locally made products. Each tour will be different, determined by the location and your tour guides, and may include stops at cattle, sheep, horse, bison and elk ranches throughout the County. The tour takes place from 1:00 - 4:00 p.m., pick up and completion location to be determined. Transportation will be provided by Alpine Taxi of Steamboat Springs. The cost is $50 for adults, $10 for kids 7-12, free for kids 0-6. This includes transportation, guides, information materials and Routt-Beer Floats.

In addition to the Friday and Saturday night ProRodeo in downtown Steamboat, which runs all summer long, the Pro Rodeo Cowboys Association (PRCA) ProRodeo continues its Independence Day tradition with a special evening rodeo on Tuesday, July 3 (7:30 pm start) and Wednesday, July 4th at 7:00 p.m. Whew! Four nights of rodeo in one weekend.

Kick off Independence Day, Wednesday July 4th, with a hearty Pancake Breakfast at the Community Center before securing a spot on Lincoln Avenue to watch the First National Bank of Steamboat Springs Fourth of July Parade. Continue celebrating at the Pioneer Day Block Party and a Strings in the Mountains free concert at the Tread of Pioneers Museum. In the evening, don't miss the Steamboat Springs Pro Rodeo at Romick Arena. After the Rodeo, the Fourth of July Fireworks display will light up downtown Steamboat Springs. The best viewing spots are on the grass by the river. Turn your heads to the sky and "ooh and aah" with your friends and family.
